Peerless Lake, Alberta

Working together, with community members and leadership we commit to bringing different programs that will promote healthy living and active supports for all people in the communities of Peerless Lake and Trout Lake, known as the Peerless Trout First Nation. Peerless Trout First Nation is located 68 kilometers northeast of Red Earth, Alberta.

Are you a highly motivated individual who is passionate about helping others? Do you have a Certificate or Diploma in Addictions Counselling, Social Work, or equivalent? If so, this is the opportunity for you!

Reporting to the Peerless Trout Healing Centre Director, the Addictions Worker will work with members on an individual basis to promote change and enhance their overall will-being. This position provides addiction-related assessments and referrals, one to one meaningful work, group facilitation and leadership, case management and consultations in a professional and therapeutic environment. The successful candidate must be team focused and will assist in planning workshops and group activities, and in developing a community specific after care program geared towards addiction recovery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate workshops and group lectures for culturally sensitive group, family, and individual one-on-one work sessions.
  • Present and connect with clients online and over the phone. The successful candidate must be comfortable in accessing and using online video conferencing programs, client database programs, and shared folders.
  • Document the client’s special needs (suicide, medical problems, core issues, etc.). 
  • Assist clients in identifing problem areas, setting goals, and after care plans.
  • Assess clients and provide up to date information and current treatment options and provide referrals to professionals.
  • Assist clients with Step Work and Big Book Study.
  • Ensure clients actively participate in the treatment program, and are aware of the consequences of non-participation and not following facility rules.
  • Make recommendations on client terminations, unusual activites, and client concerns to Team Lead.
  • Prepare and maintain client files with related documentation and treatment summary reports. Maintain a ‘running record’ regarding client behavior, attitude, activities, and progress. Document activities in the logbook.
  • Prepare all necessary reports on a timely basis and in the required format.
  • Participate in case management and debriefing.
  • Provide feedback to other Counselling staff during daily case conferences and debriefing.
  • Engage clients in attending healing opportunities for mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual growth.
  • Transport clients to and from activities.
  • Undertake any other related duties as assigned by the Team Lead or the Executive Director.

You will have:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Addictions Counselling, Social Work, or equivalent;
  • Minimum of three years’ related experience;
  • Experience working with indigenous communties with an understanding of intergenerational impacts of colonization;
  • Good organization skills;
  • Demonstration of a healthy lifestlye;
  • Must be able to provide a clear Criminal Records Check and Drivers Abstract. Successful candidate will be required to sign an Oath of Confidentliality;
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle;
  • Final candidates for this position will be asked to undergo a security screening;
  • Successful candidate is to reside in PEERLESS TROUT FIRST NATION or able to commute daily from home.
