The Lands Coordinator plays a central role in guiding PTFN’s land-based initiatives, ensuring they reflect the Nation’s policies, procedures, and long-term strategic goals. This position supports PTFN’s self-governance by coordinating land interest applications, monitoring compliance, and fostering meaningful community participation. With a focus on balancing sustainable development, economic opportunity, and environmental stewardship, the Lands Coordinator ensures all projects meet relevant laws and regulations. Working collaboratively with leadership, community members, and external partners, this role helps advance PTFN’s vision for responsible land management, prosperity, and cultural preservation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
▪ Coordinate the application process for new interests in land (i.e. permits, leases, individual interests), including renewals, assignments, and amendments.
▪ Process land development authorizations and/or development permits to ensure compliance with the Land Use Plan and other PTFN Laws and policies, including coordinating member outreach as required and providing updates to leadership.
▪ Ensure permit/lease holder compliance with terms and conditions of permits/leases, including rent collection, land use, etc., and coordinating site visits and inspections to ensure environmental compliance.
▪ Plan and coordinate community engagement specific to community land-based projects or initiatives; assisting other departments with planning events that have a component relating to land management (i.e. Trust program, Housing, etc.).
▪ Assisting with Land Code implementation, including committee/focus group recruitment and support, engagement events/meetings relating to law-making and other implementation processes required by the FMFN Land Code and/or other FMFN policies.
▪ Attend meetings as required and assigned, within and outside the community.
▪ Contribute to briefing notes, requests for BCR, presentations, annual reports, weekly/monthly reporting.
▪ Ensure documentation, correspondence, reports, etc., are appropriately saved and filed in the PTFN network drive or equivalent, following information management policies and procedures.
▪ Attend appropriate workshops, seminars, and training sessions as outlined in the position learning plan to remain current and up to date on topics of concern to the First Nation relating to land management.
▪ Cross-training on other land, environment, and consultation unit positions.
▪ Other duties/tasks as required and as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
▪ Completion of High School Diploma.
▪ Courses in land/resource management, business administration would be an asset.
▪ Minimum of 1 year of experience with land management on First Nation reserves.
▪ Strong computer skills (MS Office Suite) and the ability to learn new software applications and platforms are essential to this position.
▪ Knowledge of First Nation and Indigenous culture and traditions.
▪ Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
▪ Very strong attention to detail and well-organized.
▪ Strong verbal and written communication skills.
▪ Highly productive and efficient.
▪ Dependability, integrity, and strong work ethic.
▪ Able to work independently.
▪ Must have a valid active Class 5 Drivers License.
