PTFN'S INVOLVEMENT IN CLEARWATER OILFIELD INVESTMENT

On February 22, 2024, Peerless Trout First Nation (PTFN), alongside 12 other Indigenous communities, signed a historic agreement to invest in Tamarack Valley Energy’s Clearwater oilfield. PTFN, through the Wapiscanis Waseskwan Nipiy Holding Limited Partnership (WWN), now holds an 85% stake in the Clearwater infrastructure, including oil batteries, gas processing facilities, and pipelines in the Marten Hills and Nipisi areas.

This investment, valued at $240 million, is backed by a 15-year loan guarantee from the Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation (AIOC), which will help reduce financial barriers for the communities involved. For PTFN, this deal represents a significant economic opportunity, with long-term revenue potential and increased control over local oilfield assets. With this investment, it is expected value is a return of $418 thousand to each nation.

PTFN Chief Gilbert Okemow expressed optimism about the deal’s positive impact on the community’s future, while PTFN Development Corporation’s Director of Operations, Tyler Letendre, highlighted the potential for long-term financial benefits, particularly for future generations. This landmark investment is seen as a major step in enhancing PTFN’s economic self-sufficiency and business capacity.
