  MEMO

As you know, on March 17, 2020, the Government of Alberta declared a Public Health emergency under the Public Health Act in Alberta resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. A number of
additional public health measures were implemented in alignment with this
declaration including further restrictions on mass gatherings. At this time,
mass gatherings are to be limited to no more than 50 attendees. These new
limitations apply to all gatherings including those related to worship and
family events such as funerals and wakes.

As part of the Public Health emergency, I respectfully request that First Nation
communities consider this important public health measure to help prevent
COVID-19 transmission and protect the health of all involved, especially
elders, persons with immune compromised states and the health of the whole
community.

This is specific to limiting the number of people attending funerals and wakes,
Indigenous Services Canada, Alberta Region understands these are difficult
times and that for many individuals comfort and support is found through
relationships with family and friends. We know that this is an extremely
challenging order and our teams are available to assist as you think about
respectful ways to honour your loved ones while protecting the health and
safety of your members

Please note, the Hope for Wellness Help Line is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week to support members of your community experiencing emotional distress and may be reached directly by
