Utility Plant Operator/Trainee

Are you an experienced Water Plant Utility Operator looking for a new opportunity? Or are you ready to start a rewarding career in water and wastewater operations? The Utility Plant Operator/Trainee position includes a minimum two-year training period, combining hands-on, on-the-job learning with formal training courses. You’ll gain practical experience while developing the knowledge and skills required to operate and maintain water and wastewater systems safely and effectively.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
▪ Operate water treatment and distribution systems.
▪ Operate sewage collection and treatment systems.
▪ Take and report meter readings for all systems.
▪ Ensure licensing conditions are met and perform water plant and sewer operations reporting.
▪ Perform preventative and routine inspection, maintenance, and repairs for the water plants and sewer systems.
▪ Gather daily water samples from water plants and forward to Alberta Environment.
▪ Ensure all necessary supplies and chemicals are inventoried in advance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
▪ Grade 12 or G.E.D.
▪ Must be dependable, safety conscious, and be able to follow operational and safety regulations.
▪ Must be comfortable with performing maintenance duties and using tools.
▪ Ability to problem solve and perform basic mathematical calculations.
▪ Ability to stay focused if situations become urgent or emergent.
▪ Possess a high attention to detail with the ability to follow directions.
▪ Effective communication skills.
▪ Previous work experience in any related position is an asset.
▪ Must provide a copy of drivers’ license (Class 5 or 5GDL) and current drivers abstract.
▪ Must provide a clear Criminal Record Check for and as requested for review every 12 months.
